Nutriscan+ offers a convenient tool for assessing the nutritional quality of pre-packaged foods by simply scanning their barcodes. This application aims to assist users in making healthier dietary choices.

Developed by the Swiss consumer advocacy magazine “Bon à Savoir”, Nutriscan+ displays the Nutri-Score of products, the number of additives present, relevant labels (such as organic, vegan, gluten-free), and the level of processing based on the NOVA classification.

By purchasing a one-time in-app feature, users can access detailed information about each additive, including known health risks, contraindications for specific diets or allergies, common uses, and market authorization status in Switzerland and the EU. The information is regularly updated by the editorial team at “Bon à Savoir.” Nutritional indicators are visually represented on a color scale indicating levels of fat, saturated fats, sugars, and salt (low, medium, or high). Furthermore, Nutriscan+ allows users to easily compare the nutritional values of two products.

Nutriscan+ is available in both French and German.

What is the Nutri-Score?
Developed by French epidemiologist Serge Hercberg, the Nutri-Score is a food labeling system designed to inform consumers about the nutritional balance of processed food products. It uses a color-coded rating scale ranging from A (green = balanced) to E (red = unbalanced). The primary purpose of this system is to facilitate comparisons among similar foods and help consumers make healthier choices. The calculation of the Nutri-Score results from an algorithm that considers both "positive" factors (such as fiber, protein, and fruit and vegetable content) and "negative" factors (such as salt, sugar, saturated fats, and energy content).
